“In the beginning, non-existent images were pre-programmed into Artifact. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.”

They’re gone! (Or should be, for the most part). Mistakes were made, lessons are still being learned. I know so much more now than I did in the beginning, and Artifact is a big mish-mash of my entire development journey.

This game has a sort of ‘brick-by-brick’ design. If Artifact was a house, from the outside it would look as though someone was in the process of building it from scratch while also living in it. Like now you can see the shape of a house, but not all the walls are there, there is exposed wiring everywhere. Upstairs the cables are just dangling all over, half the roof is tarp. But, it has a working bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. There is even a fresh coat of paint in the living room and a smart vacuum? It looks more and more like a house every day, but who in their sane mind builds a house like this?

For future (public) projects, I’ll be going with something more like a ‘room-by-room’ design. Rooms as complete and polished as can be, and over time the other whole rooms are added until a whole house is formed.

Here, we have the final submission from the last contending artist for Swarm of the Symbiotes, the last of 3 great submissions. The decision is tough. I think I know who I would like to go with, so right now more discussions are taking place to make sure they’re a good fit.
